Over 20 years ago God called me to West End Baptist to be their youth minister. In starting this position, I knew I wanted something different from the previous churches I had worked with. I wanted a Youth Ministry and prayed constantly that God would show me how to help this happen. I also know I wanted our students to have an identity. In a time when most youth groups were named after their church, I knew I wanted something else… and a logo… a symbol that when seen people would know who we were.

While cleaning my apartment I tripped over my jam box. (yep I’m that old). As I started playing the CD that was in it a song came on and for some reason it stopped me in my tracks. I put it on replay and listened to it for hours. “See you at the Crossroads” was the hook, and I just couldn’t get the word Crossroads out of my mind. After talking with our youth team and our pastor, the decision was made to call our youth Crossroads. So we were half way there… just need a logo. I had no idea how to even turn on a computer, so I spoke with one of my youth parents and he designed our first Crossroads Logo. Over the years it has changed into what we have now. Many people see it as a symbol of a super hero… but there’s so much more going on.

Our Logo:

In the center is a street sign. A cross on a road sign. This is to remind us that Christ must be the center of our life.

Around it is an adaptation of a video game symbol. The game was all about fighting a war that was going on. This reminds us with Christ in the center of our life, we will daily have to fight to keep Him there. We will be faced with distractions, doubts and hard times, but with Christ in the Center, we will Fight daily.

The last level brings everything together. It is a symbol that signifies a lantern. A lantern is a light, and with Christ in the center of our lives, as we fight daily we Shine The Light everywhere we go.

Light is a big part of Crossroads. Our Crossroads Life Verse is 1 John 1:5 “This is the message that we have heard from Him and declare to you; God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all” God has given us His word to direct us but to also shine for others to see.

For years 7th – 12th grade students have come to find Crossroads as a place where they can find rest. Jeremiah 6:16a “Stand at the Crossroads and look, ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul”.

Our desire is to provide a place where our students find rest. We need rest, because there is a battle that we must fight daily. Each week through our Sunday and Midweek Services, we give them the tools they need to not only fight, but to win.
